I posted this photo not too long ago... it was a preview to this fun session. Oh, I love these photos! I always say that with a great location and great lighting, you can't go wrong... but add in this fabulous couple and it's just perfect!

We took these photos at the beginning of the month. Back when everyone was wondering if winter would ever come. The weather was great... quite warm in fact (for January). It was a sunny day so the sky was such a pretty shade of blue. Leslie and Kyle wanted to have their photos taken at home, so we had fun inside and then we went walking in their back yard. Their place is amazing! I loved shooting there, it was wonderful...

Leslie will be having her baby soon, I am so excited for her! She and her husband don't know if baby is a boy or girl, so it will be an fun surprise for them. I am excited to take photos of their cute baby next month!

So many great memories! Last year was just fabulous. I look back at all the sessions I did while being pregnant at the same time and it was sure an experience to remember! I am so glad I continued to shoot even when I had a baby on the way. It was great to able to meet so many wonderful people and capture these photographs for them.

Here are some of my favorites... but definitely not all of them. This post would go on forever I think.

This little girl was the only baby girl (besides my own) that I took photos for this past year. She was a sweetie!

More families to finish off a great summer...

I was able to squeeze in a photo shoot for my daughter and her friend in August. I was crazy busy and did 9 sessions, besides this one, from the end of July to the end of August. I was over 6 months pregnant and it was sooo hot out. Each and every photo was worth it though!

This was my only fall photo session in 2011 :( I was just too... well... pregnant. Kim Davis and her cute family...

Taking photos of my baby girl was such a great way to end the year! I have had a blast. Thanks everyone, you made this year in photos so memorable!

Now for 2012! I can't tell you how excited I am for this year :)

I'm Back

Daphne Juliet

This photo shoot was extra fun for me! This is my baby girl... she was born on November 1st and is now 3 weeks old. I've been taking it easy and enjoying my baby, but it's about time that I do a post just for Daphne. These photos were taken when she was only 5 days old. She was an angel the whole time I took these photos... I was in heaven!

I was so happy to do at least one fall session this year. I haven't been able to schedule sessions because I am so close to having my baby. I just don't have the energy that I would like to have to do more sessions. Kim is a good friend and we have swapped fall sessions for the past three years now. She was so sweet to do my maternity photos and I was so lucky to do her family photos. Since last year her family has grown! She had a baby this past spring (you may remember her maternity session this past May). Gavin is adorable! I also loved the field where we did the pictures... it was a perfect day...

I am still here. I haven't fallen off the face of the earth :) I am still taking photos as well... though it takes me awhile to get them edited and posted. I am four weeks away from my due date and so everything baby has come first... even before photography :)

These photos are from August. I took them right in the middle of my last bunch of sessions that month, so they got put on the back burner. Makiah is my daughter, she turned three in July. Her sweet friend Brielle also turned three in August. It was a lot of fun taking pictures of them together. Makiah didn't like the idea of getting her pictures done, until I told her Brielle was coming. Then she was so excited!

So this is it. My last session for the year. It came way too quick, considering that fall is still around the corner. It will be nice to take a break and prepare for my baby.... but really... I am sure you will be seeing upcoming blog posts really soon. I just can't stop taking pictures, that's for sure :)

I say this every time, but here I go again... I LOVED this session. I know how hard it is to get a family ready for pictures, and the stress of trying to keep everyone happy throughout a session. Jason and Carrie were awesome with their kids. If they were stressing, I didn't even notice. They were so happy and positive. And the kids were just too fun. I love, love, love taking photos of kids. They are so curious and they are always making simple things so exciting. I had such a great time!

This wasn't my first time meeting Carrie and her family. Earlier this year I was so lucky to take newborn photos of Jude. Take a look at the pictures here.

It's sad to think that this was one of my last photo sessions of the year. The morning I took these was just perfect. The light was wonderful. I am now a big fan of early morning photo sessions. I am so glad Aubrey and Brent were up to meeting early! Colton was on the go... it was a lot of fun chasing him around. Though I am not as quick as I used to be, being pregnant and all. I love sessions like this... just completely laid back and fun. I love stepping back and watching families play together and capturing the fun moments they have together...

This is why I love photography. I go in circles, but it comes down to it that newborn sessions are my favorite. I love how quiet and peaceful the session is, and how that peace reflects into the photos. I love the connection between the family and their new little one. The love for the baby is definitely present. I am grateful to be apart of capturing these memories and small moments that will be remembered forever.

Selene is beautiful. She is tiny and precious. I love these images, they bring a smile to my face. Selene was an angel to work with, being just under two weeks old. Her mom, Nicole, and big sister came along for the session. I can tell they just love Selene to pieces. I loved watching them all interact.

Thank you Nicole, for letting me be apart of this time in Selene's life. I just adore her!

We had to reschedule this session a *few* times and so I was really happy when we actually had a nice (some what cool), sunny day to enjoy when we arrived for the shoot. I love how the photos turned out! Alex and Heidi were so laid back and up for anything. Charlotte was so happy and she gave me so many darling smiles. Heidi is also a photographer (check out her work!) and so I was thrilled when she asked me to take her family photos. It is always fun taking pictures for another photographer.

Mini Sessions last week went so well! This session was my first of the evening. Meet Anna and Ben...

I was so excited to do a mother/son session. I was also excited to take pictures for Anna. We know each other through a friend and my kids have played with Ben several times. It was so nice to get to know Anna a little more. It was neat to see the connection between these two. Ben was on the go the whole time, but I loved following him around to see what kind of ideas he came up with.

Definitely a favorite :) I love his smile...

I absolutely adore indoor baby sessions. There is nothing like taking photos of a cute little one in their own home. It is so comfortable and relaxed and I love the light! This session was way too fun. Leo is just adorable, and his parents are so loving toward him. I really enjoy taking newborn photos, but 3 months is sure a fun age. I love all the expressions Leo gave me... and I even got some smiles! I loved, loved, loved taking these photos.

There is something about babies little profiles that I love... so obviously this is a favorite of mine...

These last two are so sweet... and that smile is perfect to end on! I love it...

I loved this session! (I probably say that about each one...) I loved the location, the colors and my beautiful models :) This is my sister and her family... they are beautiful aren't they?? I loved taking pictures of them... I was in Utah visiting, so for this shoot we went up to Sugar House and walked around the shopping area there. We found a cute little red bookstore, some fun walls, and a laundry mat :) Oh, I was so excited!! My only wish is that we would have stayed longer and taken more pictures at the laundry mat... it was just perfect for pictures. My little sister, Bethany, took these pictures with me. She is also a photographer and we had a great time together. Check out her new blog... she does such a great job!

Finally, I am posting pictures! I feel like it has been way too long. I was out of town for a couple weeks, but that didn't stop me from taking some photos. I had fun taking pictures of family while I was visiting in Utah. This is my big brother and his wife... they are so much fun! They have been married for about 6 years, but really... you would think they were newly weds :) They are so in love and happy with each other. I am loving these photos...

Is it just me or are there so many newborn boys lately? I love it! This is my third session with a baby boy this month, and it has been so much fun. I love the variety from each session, I have enjoyed every second! Jude was so fun to work with, I got so many yawns out of him while he was trying to fall asleep.... so so cute.

I am so glad that I was able to get to know Carrie, she and I had a good time talking during this session. I love meeting other moms and seeing the connection between them and their little ones. I was so happy that Carrie was willing to be in so many of the pictures. I absolutely adore baby and mommy photos.

The first photo was one of the last that I chose and edited... but it is now my favorite....

Baby Reid

My friend Holly had her baby! He was 3 weeks old in these photos and now he is almost 1 month old. I was so happy to take his pictures... this little guy is so very cute! His strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes are just adorable. I was so happy when baby Reid's family decided to be in the pictures too...

The light in these pictures was perfect. The picture below with Reid and his dad is my favorite...

The picture below showing all his hair is another favorite... I love that hair (probably because my babies were bald :)

Big sister is so proud of her baby brother... and they look a lot alike too.

I love it when I get to photograph someone again and again... You may recognize this cute family from when I photographed them here and here. It is especially fun to see how much these two boys have grown! We had a great time wandering Purdue's Campus for this session. Scott is now a Purdue graduate and they are moving away soon. What a better place for pictures... right?

Owen's blue eyes and smile are just too cute! I could take pictures of him all day...

I was so very happy when we got this series of pictures of the boys! They were so good for me and I just love those smiles...

Baby Boy

A good friend of mine had her baby back in March and I have been itching to take his pictures! This little guy is such a wonderful baby! He was so calm and content though our photo session... even when he was awake. It was so fun being able to get some pictures of him awake, he held so still for me and was so happy. He is getting closer to being about 2 months old, so he was very alert. I had a good time! I love being with little babies... ummm, but who doesn't?

I love the different expressions that babies have when they are awake. It was fun getting a variety of pictures.

Then he fell asleep and was absolutely perfect. I love it when I can get a lot of sleeping photos... they are my favorite!

And he slept and slept some more! What a perfect baby :)

Last Week...

Kim and Brandon... Maternity

This session was extra fun... not only because I love maternity sessions, but also because I got to hang out with my friends :) This is Kim and her husband Brandon. They are both photographers and awesome at that! I shot with another photographer friend of mine, Kelly Allen... who is amazing! It was so fun to be with them and to do something we all love. Kim and Brandon were awesome and we had a blast!

Updates and a Preview

It has been way to long since I have posted on my blog! I apologize, life gets so crazy busy! I just want to announce that I am booked during May and June, but I am open for two sessions in July. I am not quite sure what is going to happen in August, September, and October of this year.... because I am expecting another little baby on November 4th :) When I decide what I will be doing August-October I will let you all know. If you are wanting to book during those months just let me know and I will talk to you about the possibilities. I will most likely be taking all of October off... which is so very hard for me since fall is a beautiful time for photos.

With that all said and done.... here is a teaser for my next post. Kim has graced my blog before and her she is again! She is a photographer friend of mine and I was thrilled to take maternity photos for her. She had her baby not too long after this session and is now a mommy! I am so excited for you Kim, Congrats!!

Baby Bump

This is my good friend Holly and her cute family. They are anxious to meet their little baby who should be here very soon. They are still unsure if they are going to be having a little boy or girl, but they are excited to find out! I LOVED this session... we lucked out with one clear day last week. No wind or rain got in our way. We even saw a little sun. I am so glad it's finally time for outdoor photos again! I also loved this location, the tall grass was perfect...

You may have noticed that I kind of stopped doing the joy of LOVE class... I was having fun and all, but I just couldn't keep up every day. I know. Pathetic excuse. Anyway... I am still here and having fun with my kiddos. This photo I took the same day as I took these pictures. I am still in love with the photos from that session with my kids. I am always going back to them, imagining them on my walls all over my house. Here is a photo I haven't posted from that session, but I love it. I also used a new action that I found today... check it out, it's even free (I love free!)

Day 8: Gift from the Heart.

What my loved one has given or promised me? That is the theme for today for the joy of LOVE class. I started looking around the house for gifts that my sweet hubby has given to me. I started taking some random... and kinda boring photos of stuff. I got a little bored... gift from the heart? As much as I love the things my husband has given me, these two have been the best gift ever...

My husband not only gave me the opportunity to have these two kiddos in my life... but he has made it possible for me to be a stay at home mommy. I LOVE what I do and nothing could be better.

You may or may not have noticed that I kind of skipped out of the past three days of the class.... I hope you didn't miss me too much! Sometimes things just don't get done... and that is okay :)

Day 4: What They Wear.

My kids had fun with the theme today. I pulled out all of their shoes... even the ones I put away for the winter. They had fun putting on one pair, taking them off and putting on another pair. Perfect activity for a winter day... right? ;) My kids love having a choice in what they wear. Especially shoes. Makiah wears a different pair every time we leave the house. Sometimes I have to sneak the pair that I want her to wear into the car, that way I can change her shoes when we get to where we are going.

Today's lesson (for the joy of LOVE class) talked a little bit about metering. I find that I usually lighten most of my photos in Photoshop after I load them onto my computer. So, what I try to do is meter +2/3 overexposure (having your meter set two lines (stops) above 0). That way it exposes the photo a touch lighter than the "correct" exposure (having your meter set at 0). I took a few photos with the +2/3 exposure, but it didn't work. It was much too bright being so close to the window. So I stopped the exposure back down to 0 and it looked much better. Each time I take photos I play around with my settings and the light until it looks just how I want it. That way I can minimize editing later on... though I still like to play around in Photoshop for finishing touches.

Understanding Exposure by, Bryan Peterson is a great book to learn more about metering, shutter speed, aperture, and getting that perfect exposure. I am always going back to this book for insight and tips that help me so much.

(My kids had so much fun lining up all of their shoes in a row... I love that they had as much fun as I did while taking these photos :))

Day 3: Then and Now.

I decided to take a twist on today's theme... I hope that's okay :) And I am totally cheating because the picture below was a picture I took last week... not today. So, the theme for the joy of LOVE class today is: Then and Now. What Willette wanted us to do is take a "then" photo of someone we love and compare it with a "now" photo. This way we can compare the changes of the person we choose from then to now. Well... this is what I am doing, but with a twist...

I decided to take a photo from a year ago... when I was first getting started with photography. I want to compare the style of this photo to the style I am now incorporating into my photography. Both pictures were taken of my son, the top in January of 2010 and the bottom in January 2011.

Then (January 2010)

Now (January 2011)

Similarities: Evan still looks the same (he hasn't changed much at all), he is posed the same, both b&w, both taken by a north facing window (to get that yummy natural light).

Differences: In the top photo I told Evan how I wanted him posed, in the bottom photo he posed on his own. The top photo is staged in front of a black backdrop, The bottom photo was a more natural setting. I used a wide open aperture to blur out the background. The crop is different (though both are cropped in camera), the top crop is more traditional... allowing the viewer to see Evan's whole face and arms. The bottom is more... umm... abstract maybe? I like it, I like that you can only see part of his face... it's different. For the top photo I remember having Evan looking at my husband who got him to smile for me... probably by saying "say cheese!" In the bottom photo... I don't think I said a thing. I was just letting him do as he pleased and I like how it turned out. He looks like he is deep in thought.

I love both photos. I probably always will. But I am really enjoying the change in my photography style. I am surprised at how much it has changed in only a year. I love that I can take the same person... and the same pose and get two very different photographs.

Day 2: How They Look

I love my boy's facial expressions when I take photos of him. I have so many different series of photos of his laughs, smiles, tears, droopy eyes... etc. Here is my favorite from a series of photo's I took today for the joy of LOVE class. The theme is How They Look, and I just love how Evan looks in his hat...

Day 1: What They Do.

During this month I will be participating in a online photography class (YEAY!) I really, really needed something like this to keep me going through the winter. I have neglected my camera way too much lately. If you are interested in joining in on the fun this month then check out THIS link. Willette is offering a FREE online class that goes on throughout the month of February. The class is called The Joy of Love, and it gives us the opportunity to take photos of the ones we love all month long. Today was the first day of the class and the theme is What They Do. I have so many loved ones in my life that I would love to take photos of... but these two kiddos are the ones that I spend each day with (so you will probably be seeing A LOT of them during this class :)).

One of the many things my kids do is... take a bath! Evan and Makiah love taking baths and if they had the choice they would probably stay in there for hours on end.

The lighting in my bathroom is... no good. I set the ISO to 800 and I had my camera set to Aperture priority (Av) with the aperture set at 2.8. I changed my white balance to Tungsen light (I usually just leave it on AWB), since the lighting in the bathroom is so yellow. I would love to have a bathroom with windows... just so I could take better photos in there. I love bath time pictures of kids!

After bath time I took these photos in my room facing the window. I wanted to get some natural light photos in the mix. After shooting off a few shots I looked at the pictures and they were BLUE (ummm change your settings Jessica!) I changed my ISO to 400 and set my white balance back to AWB and ahhh much better :) Makiah was getting grumpy so I only got some pictures of her wrinkly toes.. .she wouldn't even look at the camera.

Real Life.

I have been planning this shoot out in my mind for months. I wanted to do it in January for a bunch of reasons. One being that it's an indoor shoot and it's really cold out! Another reason... my son turned 4 this month, and my daughter is now 2 1/2. I thought it would be so nice to have these pictures to remember this time in their lives.

These pictures did not turn out the way I was expecting... but much, much, better :) I am in LOVE with these pictures and I cannot wait to hang them all over my kid's room!

I took these photos in my bedroom on my bed. I have one small window facing north. The fact that there is snow everywhere helped reflect plenty of light into the room. I used my 50 mm 1.8 lens during the whole shoot. I used the aperture priority setting (Av), and I had the aperture set to 2.8... right where I like it. I switched the ISO between 400 to 800 during the shoot, just testing things out. Luckily the shutter was quick enough (usually between 1/100-1/200s) to capture some movement. I love having my 50 mm lens for low light... I am finally getting used to the focal length.

I told my kids to dance, jump and play... and they did. We had some music on and that got their energy going. They had a lot of fun. Then they decided to pull out some books... not part of the plan, but it worked. So. Perfectly. I love these photos :)

This is why I love lifestyle photographs. So simple and beautiful. Relaxed and candid. I love that my kids had fun the whole time I was taking pictures... no tears, or begging for them to pose just right. I just followed their lead and things worked out just perfectly.

A new year and lots of changes. That's how it usually goes... right? I feel like I have neglected this blog for the past month or two. I am still here and I have still been taking pictures... even though I haven't been posting very much. I needed some time to re-group. To think about the changes that I want to make. Near the end of the fall season I started to feel like I was just going with the motions. Taking the same pictures in the same places. I was at a loss when it came to creativity. I have had time to think about goals for the upcoming year, about where I am in my photography journey, and the style I am trying to portray in my work. The time was well needed and well spent. I am ready for the new year and the opportunities that will come my way.

This year I want to focus mainly on my photography style. Over this past year I have come to love Lifestyle Photography. I am slowly developing the style that I hope to have for my future business in photography. Lifestyle photography has played a significant role in developing this style. I hope to convey real life in my photographs this year.

This year I not only want to post about the sessions I've done... but also inspirations, ideas, and learning experiences. I want this blog to be a place that you can come to and learn, and grow in your own photography journey. I hope to learn with you as well. I have much to learn and I am excited to continue in my own personal journey.

I hope that this will be a place that I will meet new people and make new friends. Feel free to comment and tell me your thoughts... I'd love to meet you and hear what you have to say!

2010 Babies!

As I was working on my previous post I decided that I just had to do a post just for the babies. Every time I look back at the baby photos I took last year I fall in love with them all over again. These babies are absolutely beautiful! I have come to love taking photos of newborns and I hope the coming year provides me with more opportunities to do so.

I also wanted to thank the wonderful moms of these precious babies. They were all so patient with me! Newborn sessions take a great deal of time and patience. It is also during a time that the moms and babies are tired and needing rest. Thank you moms for these wonderful memories and beautiful photographs. I appreciate all you do!

Photography Journey 2010

I now know why it took me so long to post about 2010. I have been going through photos all morning and.... wow! Where do I start? I have met so many amazing people this year. These photos mean so much to me.

This year has been my first full year in my photography journey. I bought my first dSLR camera in 2009 and in January 2010 I made a goal to do a photo session once a month for someone outside my family. I posted on my family blog to spread the word and asked if anyone wanted their photos taken. My first session last year was in February and it was a success! I fell in love with the photos and I had such a wonderful time (despite the cold weather!).

From then on out I took any session I could get. I had wonderful friends who let me take photos of their cute kids and families. In April Jessica Bateman Photography was *born* and I was so excited to introduce my new blog. My first baby session was one of my favorite sessions and I couldn't wait for my next baby session. Another session that I will always remember was when I took photos of three adorable best friends. It is so fun to capture the moments that children have! My last session of the year was also very memorable. I had so much fun with some good friends of mine.... I took photos of them while they took photos of my husband and I. It really was a blast!

I also enjoyed taking photos of my own children... I post most of these photos on my personal blog, but every now and then I will share a little bit about them here on my photo blog. I love my children so much and I owe them all the credit when it comes to photography. They are my inspirations!

Throughout the whole year I did 24 sessions. I am so grateful to all the wonderful people who trusted me and let me be the one to capture the special moments they will remember forever. I have enjoyed every step in my journey and I am excited to see what the new year will bring.

Here is a special thank you to all my 2010 families! I appreciate everything you've done for me... it has been a wonderful year!

With 2011 now here I am realizing how much I need to do, and want to do. I just need the time to do it! I am hoping to get a post up with some of my favorite photos of 2010... for now I will share just one :) This is a photo that stood out for me. One that I always go back to. I LOVE how it turned out! I LOVE the dimples more than anything. The angle is fun and the depth of field just makes the photo. This family was great! I had a great year getting to know amazing people and I am looking forward to the upcoming year and all the experiences to come.

I am an aspiring photographer... working towards becoming a professional. I bought my first dSLR in the fall of 2009, and I have been taking pictures for friends and friends of friends ever since. Last year, I feel, was a time that I grew and learned so much... I learned what I want to become in the photography world. This year I want to grasp what I found about myself and photography and work towards creating a style for my future photography business.

I am a "mom with a camera," as some would say. I owe my children so much when it comes to photography. They have inspired me in so many ways... they don't even know. Many of my *favorite* photographs are of them. I am married to a fun loving, funny, handsome guy. I love him. He, too, has helped me on my journey. I am so grateful for all of his patience and love.

I am in love with Lifestyle Photography. It inspires me in so many ways. When I see a photo taken that simply captures the emotion of that particular moment it makes me want to know more, to see more. Natural light to me is beautiful. The touch of light caught in a child's eye, the rays from the sun bursting into a room or even a glare on the lens... Mmm. I love it.

What I want to create for you is a memory, not just a posed smile to hang on your wall. I want to capture the emotion and love that is in your life. I want to capture something relaxed, comfortable, and real.

Before scheduling a session with Jessica Bateman Photography, the following information may be helpful:

I am an aspiring photographer specializing in natural light and lifestyle photography.
I am located in the West Lafayette/Lafayette, Indiana area. For the time being, I am only scheduling sessions in my area.
Sessions take place on location, either in your home or in the area. I do not offer studio sessions.
For a few reasons, one being that I am a stay at home mom, I will be offering limited sessions this year. The sessions that I offer will be taken to help build my photography portfolio. Because of this, I will be particular about the type of sessions I will offer. I am focusing on shooting lifestyle photography, as I am trying to develop my personal style for my future photography business. If this style is not for you, I may be of help in finding a photographer who better fits your own style.
I am only available on Saturdays; morning, late afternoon or early evening. These times provide great lighting and ensure beautiful photographs.
Family sessions start in May and go through October.
Newborn and Maternity sessions are offered throughout the year. During the cold months they will need to be taken indoors, specifically in your home when possible. Please plan on at least 2 hours for a newborn session.
When you arrive to your session you will be asked to sign a model release. This is optional. If you choose to sign it, then it gives me permission to use the photos taken at the session on my blog and in my portfolio.
2-3 weeks after your photo session you will receive a high resolution disc of edited images from your session. You can use the disc to print at your convenience. At this time I am not offering prints. Rights to edited photographs are limited to personal use only.
Please contact me for available dates, times and any other questions you may have.

Sessions are laid back, relaxed and fun! I have experience photographing families, couples, babies, children and expecting mothers. I am also looking for opportunities to photograph engagement sessions and graduating seniors.

Sessions start at $100 and include:

60 to 90 minute photo session with up to 6 individuals ( $5 fee for each additional person)
On location, at a place of your choice within the West Lafayette/Lafayette, Indiana area.
Unlimited wardrobe changes
High resolution disc with 25-30 edited images, plus any black and white images. You can use the disc to print at your convenience.
All rights to edited photographs, for personal use only.

Edited images are hand picked and are custom processed by the photographer.

Payments for all sessions are due on or before the date of the photo shoot. Please notify me as soon as possible if you need to reschedule or cancel.

I don't even know where to begin! This session was... amazing! Kim Davis is a friend of mine and I was thrilled to do a photo swap with her. She and Brandon took some (AMAZING) photos of my husband and myself and I absolutely adore them (check them out!) Now I am so excited to share the photos that I took of them....

When I woke up on the morning of the shoot, I opened my window and saw thick fog. My first thought was "uh oh!" and my second thought was... "we got to get out there and take pictures now!" I am so glad things worked out the way they did! The fog was awesome and the pictures wouldn't be the same without it :)

Did I mention how much fun we had? I loved every second of this session. After a long fall season (that has been great!) I have started to feel my creativity run dry... if that makes sense. Shooting with Kim and Brandon gave me the creative boost that I needed. It was fun to see their perspective on things and to get some new ideas. Thanks you guys, we should definitely do this again... soon!

This session was fun for so many reasons... new location, great weather, fun in the leaves, cute kids, and a sweet family. I am finding that I learn more and more with each session. With this session and the last both families had three kids. Learning to find ways to keep them all happy, smiling and looking at the camera has been so good for me! It was a challenge but we got some great photos.

My very first newborn photo session was with cute little Ethan. I can't believe how much Ethan has changed (take a look for yourself!). I still love the photos from his newborn session and now he is 8 months old and still just as cute. This time around I was able to take photos of the whole family :) Melissa is a good friend of mine and so of course we had a great time during this session. We took these photos just before sunset so we were basically chasing the sun... we had to finish before we had no light! I am so glad we chose this time though, the light was perfect...

I am so in love with this photo! Her smile is so sweet and natural. The sparkle in her eyes just completes it...

Yeay for baby smiles! I love this....

Travis, Dawn and Malachi

I tend to be quiet at photo sessions. That is just who I am, I guess. I like to sit back and watch people. I like to watch them interact. I think that is why I like lifestyle photography so much. As the photographer I can silently watch families interact and create photographs from what I see. This worked well in this session. With little direction from me this sweet family just had a great time with each other. I love the moments caught on camera. The love that Travis and Dawn have for their little boy is just amazing.

This little guy was just perfect! I loved the smiles he would give me, this age is so fun! His dimples won me over completely :)

I'm Booked!

It has been a busy fall! I am now booked through the end of November and I will not be scheduling sessions in December. I will start scheduling family sessions again next spring. I will be available to do maternity, newborn and baby sessions starting in January.

I love, love, love doing newborn sessions! They are a challenge in their own little way, but so worth it in the end. I am so happy with these photos, especially with the first one :) I will definitely have to *try* to recreate this photo if I have another baby...

This is baby Elise, isn't she adorable? She was about two weeks old when I took these photos.

We had a hard time getting Elise to fall asleep AND stay asleep :) The photo below makes me laugh... she couldn't keep her eyes closed very long!

We were able to get her to sleep just long enough to get some photos of her sleeping. There is something about watching a newborn sleep... it is so peaceful :)

Elise's big brother and sister were so proud of their baby sister. They were excited to show her off to me... and I don't blame them, she is sure cute!

This is the beautiful momma, Ann. She has been such a good friend to me over the past couple of years. I am so happy for her and her family, they are sure happy to have Elise in their lives.

Congratulations Ann, your daughter is beautiful! I am so glad I was able to capture these moments for you.

I had another opportunity to meet a new family at a recent photo session. They were all a lot of fun and made me feel very welcome. This is the first time, since two of their kids were married, that they were all able to be together. What a better time for a photo session? I am glad that I was able to meet the Newby's, they are a wonderful family.

The unique thing (for me at least) about this session is the fact that there were no children. I almost always have children involved in my photo sessions... that made things a little bit different, but fun.

I really loved how the photos of the three girls turned out. My favorite...

I think I'd like it if Fall would just stick around for awhile longer... or a lot longer :) I am loving the cool... but warm weather we've been having. I also wish the beautiful leaves could stick around all through November. I am not looking forward to winter....

This session was just perfect. I feel so lucky to be getting so many sunny days for pictures. I haven't had to worry about rain for quite awhile. We headed out to one of my favorite spots and we were there at the perfect time with all the fall leaves. Tamri is a good friend of mine, and of course I was so excited when she asked me to take her family photos. I LOVE taking pictures for friends. It is fun to see their personalities come out in each photo. Tamri and her family are naturals in front of the camera...

I love Elsie's and Isaacs dark eyes. So pretty :)

Fall Colors

Beautiful location, perfect light, and a wonderful family! Having just started out with photography, so far I have only done sessions for families that I already know (well, except for one other family :)). I didn't meet this sweet family until we met for our session. I am so glad that I was able to take photos for them! They were so much fun and they let their personalities show for each photo even though they didn't know me. I am glad I was able to get to know them a little and I hope to get to know them even more! They are a super fun family. I was going to post some of these in black and white, but I just couldn't. I just love the colors from this session so much...

Skipping Rocks

The beautiful weather (and a fun new lens) gave me a great excuse for a walk last night. So we headed down to the pond to throw rocks... and I fell in love with these photos...

This was my favorite before I even loaded it onto the computer. I love his hands and all the rocks in mid air. Love it.

Typical big brother.

This is my son... asking him if he could see a bug in the lens was the only way I could get him to look at the camera :) He is a fun loving, silly boy and I love him to pieces.

This is my daughter.... her imagination is blooming so much lately. I can hardly contain my laughter from all the silly things she says and does.

The light last night was brilliant and I had some fun!

I think my favorite part of the photo below is my daughter's little smile :) It looks like she is really excited about all the treasures she has found (and she was)!

And these photos... will forever and ever be favorites of mine. My kids have been flying around like this a lot lately. They love airplanes and everywhere we go they have their arms out like they could just fly away. I heart these sooo much....

I absolutely loved this session. I love it when families can just be themselves in front of the camera.... It makes my job so much fun! This family did just that. They gave me the most beautiful smiles.... I could have stayed there all day taking photos. When I asked them what location they wanted they were up for anything. I suggested going to an apple orchard and I am so glad we went, I love how this session turned out!

You should be able to remember Elly... I posted her maternity photos not long ago. I loved the urban look and the bright colors we used in her maternity session... this session was quite the opposite. It was so calm and quiet. The light was soft and the colors relaxed. I love taking baby photos in the home. What a fun way to remember those first few weeks. Now Elly has two boys to care for and this little guy is just adorable! I loved getting to know little Owen and enjoyed taking these photos very much.

I did a preview with this photo and just had to post it again... an all time favorite of mine!

Drew is a sweet big brother... I love the photos of the boys together. So many sweet moments. I asked Drew how much he loves his baby brother...

I've been having a hard time admitting it, but fall is just about here! Though I am sad to say summer is pretty much over, I am excited to let you know about my Fall Special. This has been a fun start to maternity photography for me... I loved this session and I am so excited for Elly's little baby boy to arrive! Can you believe she is due next week? She looks fabulous and I just love all of these photos.... too many favorites...

Of course we had to get some photos with the family. Drew is just adorable and I can tell he will be a great big brother... he loved giving baby kisses.

These last three are my favorites... Love them.

I have been away from the blog for quite some time now... just doing those crazy summer things that make my life busy, busy, busy! I have much to post and much to come over the next month or so, so be watching for more posts...

It's been awhile since I've joined in at i heart faces and so I glanced over at their site to see what's going on this week. I love the theme and (like so many others probably did when the heard the theme) I had a certain photo pop right into my head....
